This indicator shows the percentage of adults who participated in any physical activities or exercise such as running, calisthenics, golf, gardening, or walking for exercise during the past month.

Why is this important?

Engaging in physical activities regularly can help to improve and stimulate a person's overall health and fitness. Individuals who are physically inactive increase their risk of dying early of leading causes of death, like heart disease and some cancers. Being physically active helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints. It helps control and maintain weight, build lean muscle, and reduce fat. In addition, exercise helps to prevent or delay the development of high blood pressure. Moderate amounts of physical activity are recommended for people of all ages.
