Dr. Qing Zeng, With 20 years of experience in informatics, Dr. Zeng has special expertise in text mining, consumer health informatics, and semantic integration of data sources. She has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles, as well as served as the PI and Co-PI on a number of VA HSR&D, NIH and DOD funded research projects. Dr. Zeng’s research vision is to leverage information for healthcare research and delivery. Her main research areas are NLP and consumer health informatics. Prior to coming to GW, Dr. Zeng was a Professor at the University of Utah and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, where she developed an NLP tool (HITEx) for two large consortium projects (i2b2 and SPIN). HITEx was the first open-source, comprehensive clinical NLP system in the nation. In addition to her work at GW, Dr. Zeng is currently the Associate Director of the Center for Health and Aging at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. At the VA, she has organized a VA-wide collaboration to develop interoperability standards for the broader clinical NLP community. The Open Access Collaborative (OAC) Consumer Health Vocabulary (CHV) produced by her team is the first and only consumer health vocabulary that has been incorporated into the Unified Medical Language System. She has also developed a number of novel informatics methods (e.g. automated illustration of instruction and social media analysis) to improve patient-centered care. |

Dr. Linda Zanin, Dr. Linda Zanin is the Director of Strategic Partnerships at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She has been in higher education for over 27 years in both the community college and four year university systems teaching and promoting community partnerships. Linda is a registered diagnostic medical sonographer. |

Jennifer Ushe, MS, is an engineering teacher at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA. T.C. T.C. is a well-respected, comprehensive high school with a current enrollment of approximately 3,600 students in grades 9–12 in the 2016-17 school year. Ms. Ushe is an engineering teachers who has developed and taught classroom lessons in robotics, engineering, biotechnology and forensic science and supplemented coursework with field-trips, guest speakers, and extra-curricular events. She has facilitated partnerships and coordinated volunteer opportunities with local architecture and engineering firms and colleges to further engage students in STEM related topics through visits, internships, and mentorships. She also creates technology-based lessons, utilizing such technologies as C++ programming, Microsoft Office Suite, and animation presentation software. |
Laura Evans, MS, is also a teacher at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA. Ms. Evans focuses on health and medical sciences. She has been instrumental in bringing a program to T.C. Williams High School whereby students will have a chance to get a head start on their college and medical career ambitions through a new partnership between Alexandria City Public Schools and George Washington University. Through this collaboration, faculty from both schools, as well as health care experts, will offer students the opportunity to attend the Academy of Health Sciences, a pathway housed within T.C. Williams that will help high school students earn up to 22 college credits and health care training. Prior to this new partnership, Ms. Evans was a key asset in T.C. Williams already successful Health Sciences program with the classes it offers, including DE Medical Terminology, DE Surgical Technologist, and Intro to Health and Medical Sciences. |
